Maine's Third Actors' Rally, March 21, 3 pm, Monument Square, Portland
Better Banking for the Planet
Banks aren’t complicated. They use our money to make more money. If you’re like me, last week’s bank failures and troubles—SVB, First Republic, Credit Suisse—are stark reminders of the persistence in the banking industry of bad actors, greed, entitlement, etc. You can read or listen to cogent discussions of those failures. You should, because understanding this piece of our economy is critical if we are to redirect the course of climate change.
As a Third Actor living in Maine you can offset those bad bank actors by showing up tomorrow in Portland. We’ll be there with lots more information about the banking industry’s connection to fossil-fuel funding and exploration.
You’ll get a chance to meet other Mainers concerned about climate change—old and young, since have 12 other partner organizations joining us. You’ll also be part of a national protest—there are over 100 other actions taking place in the US tomorrow.
Want more reasons to come? Take a look at Bill McKibben’s latest post Come Together.
We hope you’ll show up to show the banks that we won’t take any more of their greed, poor behavior, or ignoring the urgency of climate change.
“There is a rapidly closing window of opportunity to secure a livable and sustainable future for all.”
